You can make your own fiberglass tape from cloth. Both Devlin and Welsford tell you in their books to cut your own tapes from cloth, but cut on the diagonal.

This provides at least four benefits:

  • No long strings on fraying edges
  • Your strips will be longer than the cloth is wide
  • Because the cloth is cut "on the bias" it will conform better to odd nooks & crannies without buckling
  • Cheaper than buying pre-cut tapes
